You’ve worked hard to create a kitchen you love, but as with so many other parts of your home, you struggle to keep it clean. Since we’ve helped you create it, we’d love to give you some tips to keep it looking great.
Appliances
Cleaning the outside of appliances is relatively simple. Get a cloth wet with some soapy water for a traditional finish. For Stainless Steel, you want a cloth with diluted white vinegar. This will help to take stubborn fingerprints off the surface.
For the inside of your refrigerator, you’ll need a rag with all-purpose cleaner to take care of the shelves. Any removable drawers can be washed and dried in a sink full of soapy water.
Cabinets
If you have wood cabinets, you’ll want to clean the outside of them with a damp, soapy cloth. This can take care of any dirt that builds up on the cabinets over the long term.
Microwave
The inside of your microwave often gets dried, caked on material on the sides of it. To take care of that, put a handful of wet paper towels inside and run it for 3-5 minutes. The steam from the paper towels will loosen the dried material and you can wipe it away with the paper towels once they’ve cooled down.
Garbage Disposal
These get a funky smell from time to time. Take care of it by preparing ice cubes that are half vinegar and half water. Once they are completely frozen, simply grind them up in the disposal.
Countertops
This is trickier to give general tips because everyone’s counter is different. Still, you can clean up your countertops using the recommended cleaning method. For your convenience, we have written articles on care for marble and granite. Caring for quartz counters involves a rag and a mild, non-abrasive detergent.
Tile Floors
There are many methods for cleaning a tile floor, but the one we like is relatively simple. You mix ½ cup of baking soda to 2 gallons of water and then use a mop or sponge to get the floors clean.
Wood Floors
If you want your floors to shine, use a mixture of 9 parts warm water to 1 part white vinegar. Again, use a sponge or mop to get things clean.
Any Copper or Brass
It doesn’t matter if you have fixtures, pots or pans made of brass or copper, the same method can be used. Dab some ketchup (yes, that ketchup) on a soft cloth and then gently buff out any tarnish. Once you’re finished, follow up with a warm water rinse.
