How to Choose the Right Kitchen Sink

A kitchen sink is one of the most important items in your kitchen. That’s why it’s very important to take some time to really consider your options. These are a few key points that you’ll want to keep in mind:

Budget

This is one of the first factors you should consider. How much of your kitchen budget can you allocate towards a kitchen sink? Once you’ve decided on that item you can move forward to find options within your selected price range.

Number of Faucet Holes

In most cases you can choose one, two, or three faucet holes. One hole will cover a single handle faucet, two holes will handle a soap dispenser, sprayer, or hot and cold water dispensers. Three holes allow for separate hot and cold handles and a sprayer, or soap dispenser.

Number of Bowls You Need

Are you looking for one, two, or three bowls? One bowl is perfect for washing those large dishes, but doesn’t let you separate clean from dirty dishes in the sink. Two bowls allow you to do different tasks in the sink at the same time, kill two birds with one stone by preparing and cleaning at the same time. The disadvantage is a smaller space; you may not be able to fit your larger dishes in there. Having three sink bowls gives you the option to have a garbage disposal basin, this option has the same disadvantages and advantages of the double sink option.

Size

What will fit best in your counter space? You may think you want a large three bowl sink, but will it really fit in the allotted space?

Shape

Consider the design of your kitchen space, function, and usage of it. A rectangle sink may work better for your lifestyle than a circular, kidney, or other shape and vice versa.

Sink materials

Stainless steel, porcelain, granite, and natural stone are all great options. You’ll want to keep in mind things like durability, ease of cleaning, style, and price. While stainless steel is very durable and easy to clean, it can scratch easily. Granite resists scratches and chips but can stain and requires maintenance.
